# External Event Links

Use **External Event Links** when Customers should register on an outside website (for example Eventbrite, a club form, or another registration tool) instead of signing up inside PodPlay.

When a link is set on an Event, the public Event page replaces the normal **Sign Up** button with your custom button. Customers who click it are taken to your external URL in a new browser tab.

**PLEASE NOTE:** This feature must be enabled for your club. If you do not see the setting or the **External Link** section on Events, contact your PodPlay CSM.

### Turn on External Event Links

* Open **Company Settings**
* Go to the **Booking** tab
* Find **Event Signup Settings**
* Turn on **External Event Links**
* Save

Once enabled, staff can add an external link when creating or editing an Event.

### Add an external link on an Event

* Open the Event in the Dashboard (create a new Event or edit an existing one)
* Expand the **External Link** section
* Enter a **Link Name** (the button label Customers will see, up to 20 characters)
  * Example: `Register externally`
* Enter a **Link URL** (where the button should go)
  * Example: `https://example.com/register`
* Save the Event

**Both fields are required together.** You must fill in Link Name and Link URL, or leave both empty. Saving with only one filled in is blocked.

### What Customers see

* On the public Event page, Customers see your **Link Name** as the main action button instead of **Sign Up**
* Clicking the button opens the **Link URL** in a new tab
* Sign-up and payment for that Event then happen on the external site, not inside PodPlay

### Important rules

* **No PodPlay sign-ups yet:** Set or change the external link before Customers are added as PodPlay participants on that Event. After the Event has any PodPlay sign-ups, the Link Name and Link URL fields are locked.
* **Clearing a link:** To remove the external button, clear both Link Name and Link URL (while the Event still has no PodPlay sign-ups), then save.
* **Turning the feature off:** If **External Event Links** is turned off in Company Settings, the public button is hidden even if a link is still saved on the Event. Normal PodPlay sign-up returns on the Event page. Turning the setting back on shows the saved link again without re-entering it.
* **Series Events:** On Events that are part of a Series, the External Link fields may be locked for single-Event edits. Set the link when you create the Event, or update the Series occurrences using your usual Series save options when those fields are editable.

### Tips

* Use a clear Link Name so Customers know they are leaving PodPlay (for example `Register on Eventbrite`)
* Prefer a full `https://` URL so the button opens reliably
* Use External Event Links when registration, waivers, or payment must happen on another platform; use normal PodPlay sign-up when you want attendees, waitlists, and payments managed in the Dashboard

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.podplay.app/events/create-an-event/external-event-links.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
