# Edit Memberships

### Overview

Staff with the [correct Role](https://docs.podplay.app/the-dashboard/admin-roles) can adjust a Customer's Membership from two places on the Customer's Profile:

* Click on the pencil icon (edit Membership)
* Click on the blue Membership flag

### Edit Membership (pencil icon)

Clicking the pencil icon opens three options:

* [Update Memberships](https://docs.podplay.app/memberships/managing-memberships/upgrades-and-downgrades) — upgrade or downgrade a plan, make a price change, or switch their Charge Type
* [Pause Membership](https://docs.podplay.app/memberships/managing-memberships/pause-membership) — pause the Membership for a set number of weeks (if the plan is eligible and configured to include a Pause n)
* [Cancel Membership](https://docs.podplay.app/memberships/managing-memberships/cancel-a-membership) — cancel at the next billing cycle or immediately

### Membership flag

Clicking the Customer's blue Membership flag opens the Membership details panel, where an Admin can:

* [Add Group Members](https://docs.podplay.app/memberships/types-of-memberships/group-family-memberships#adding-a-member-from-the-dashboard) —
* Adjust Packages —
* Change Billing Price —
* Change Charge Date —

### Editing a Customer's Membership Price or Next Charge Date

An Admin can override what a single Customer pays without changing the Membership plan for anyone else, and can confirm the Customer's Next Charge Date from the same panel.

#### Change the Custom Monthly Price

1. Navigate to the Customer page of the Dashboard
2. Search for and open the Customer's Profile
3. Click the Customer's blue Membership flag near the top of the Overview tab of the side panel
4. Type a new value into the Custom Monthly Price field
5. Click Update The Membership's Current Price updates immediately to reflect the new value. Close and save when exiting the Customer's Profile.

> **Note:** Only an Admin Role can update a Customer's Custom Price.

#### What changing the price affects

* If the Customer later buys a new Membership, their Custom Monthly Price updates again to match the new purchase
* If the Customer has an Annual Membership, changing the Custom Monthly Price changes the amount they're charged on their next annual charge date, even though the field is labeled "Monthly"

#### Reviewing the Next Charge Date

The same blue Membership flag panel shows the Customer's current Next Charge Date next to their Custom Monthly Price, so an Admin can confirm both before making a change.

#### Converting a Monthly Membership to Annual mid-cycle

This is an edge case, best avoided by having the Customer ask about Annual Memberships before they sign up. To convert an existing Monthly Membership to Annual and charge the Customer correctly for the remaining balance of the year, contact your PodPlay CSM with:

* The Customer's name
* The amount of their Membership
* Confirmation the Customer acknowledges they'll be charged now for the remaining balance

### FAQs

<details>

<summary>What if I want to change a Membership's price?</summary>

Changing a Membership plan's price CAN update every Customer subscribed to it, taking effect on each Customer's next billing date. For example, raising a $50/month Membership to $60/month means every Customer on that plan pays $60 starting with their next bill.

Changing a Membership plan's price can also NOT update every Customer subscribed to it, taking effect on only future Customer's who buy the Membership. For example, raising a $50/month Membership to $60/month and only applying it to the Customers buying the Membership from this point forward, means everyone previously continues to pay $50/month and everyone moving forward pays $60/month

<details>

<summary>What Is Member vs. Non-Member Pricing?</summary>

A Membership's price is separate from what it charges a Customer for other things. A Club can set different rates for Members and Non-members on Reservations, Events, Leagues, and Tournaments, and can discount the Coach rate for specific Memberships.

Event pricing has separate, editable fields for Members and Non-members when the Event is created. Reservation pricing for Members and Non-members is set on the Venue page.

<details>

<summary>What about discounts for Coach rates on Memberships?</summary>

A Membership can include a discount on the Coach rate for private lessons. Every Customer holding that Membership gets the same discount when booking any Coach.

Example: a Coach costs $100/hour. A Non-member pays the full $100/hour. A Customer on a Membership with a 10% Coach discount pays $90/hour. A Customer on a Membership with a 20% Coach discount pays $80/hour.

Go to the Membership page of the Dashboard to edit the Membership discount on Coaching Lessons.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.podplay.app/memberships/managing-memberships.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
