ACH Payment for Memberships

Overview

A Customer can pay for a Membership with a credit card or a US bank account, either at purchase or by changing the payment method on an existing Membership. An Admin can also charge any active saved card or US ACH bank account on a Customer's Profile when resolving a payment issue.

To turn on ACH Membership payment option, contact the Customer Success team and request the feature be turned on.

What a Customer can do in the App

Selecting a bank account at purchase

When a Customer buys a Membership in the App, the payment step includes a bank account option alongside card payment. The Customer selects the bank account method and completes the bank verification flow.

Changing an existing Membership to a bank account

  1. Open the App.

  2. Tap the More tab.

  3. Tap Payment Methods.

  4. Tap Membership Payment Method.

  5. Tap Add Payment Method.

  6. Choose Bank.

The new bank account becomes the payment method for the recurring Membership charge.

Passing the transaction fee to Customers

A Club can pass the 3% transaction fee to the Customer rather than absorb it. This is a Club-level billing decision, and the Club tells PodPlay the date the change takes effect.

Fee changes are scheduled, not retroactive. Charges before the effective date keep the previous fee treatment.

Letting the Customer choose card or ACH

A Club can apply the 3% processing fee to card payments and leave ACH without it. The Customer then sees both methods at checkout and picks one, so the Customer decides whether to absorb the fee for the convenience of paying by card. This works on standard Memberships and on Hidden Memberships reached by a direct link. See Setting up a Hidden Membership.

Charging a saved card or bank account from the Dashboard

When resolving a Membership payment issue, an Admin can charge an active saved card or US ACH bank account on the Customer's Profile, not only a booking card. Use this when the Club takes ACH for Memberships, or when the Customer has more than one payment method on file.

Selecting a payment method

  1. Open Resolve payment issue from the Customer's Profile.

  2. Keep the payment option set to Card.

  3. Under Payment method, choose the active saved card or US ACH bank account to charge.

The list includes every active card and US ACH bank account on file. PodPlay preselects the Customer's Membership payment method when they have one. When they do not, it preselects their booking default.

What happens after confirming

A card charge usually completes right away, and the Membership billing dates update immediately.

An ACH bank charge can stay processing. Billing dates update automatically once the bank payment settles, and a success message states that the re-charge is processing while the bank has not settled yet.

Tips

  • When no payment methods appear in the list, the Customer has no active card or US ACH bank account on file. Use Payment link, Cash, or Free of charge instead.

  • A Club that only allows ACH for Memberships can still charge an active saved card from this pop-up when the Customer has one.

Common issues

  • The Customer does not see a bank option: Confirm the Customer is on a current version of the App. The bank option appears on the Membership payment step, not on one-off Reservation checkout.

  • The Customer added a bank account but the Membership still charges a card: Adding a payment method does not always replace the Membership payment method. Have the Customer set the bank account under More > Payment Methods > Membership Payment Method.

  • A payment failed during an upgrade: Confirm the payment method is valid and not expired, then try another method. See Upgrading and downgrading a Membership.
