# Set Autonomous Access Hours

{% hint style="warning" %}
A door locking mechanism is required for this feature to work. Learn more about the [Autonomous tier](https://docs.podplay.app/owners-playbook/the-podplay-system/overview-of-tiers/further-details-of-tiers#door-access).
{% endhint %}

### Overview

If your Club is staffed and also unstaffed during certain times of day, you can use the Autonomous Access Hours feature to allow Customers to unlock the Club's doors when your Club staff is not working. This setting is on the Venue page of the Dashboard.

{% hint style="info" %}
**The Venue page is still in development.**
{% endhint %}

### Set the Experience's default access

Once enabled, Customers see [**Unlock door and Check-in**](https://docs.podplay.app/overview/open-door-autonomous) button or [**QR check-in**](https://docs.podplay.app/overview/how-to-use-the-check-in-button) depending on the time of day. Pick one option as the default, then schedule the hours when the other option should apply.

If your Club is staffed and also unstaffed, the QR check-in option is the correct default access to choose.

* Go to the **Venue** page
* Open the **Experience** in the Dashboard
* Select the **Access** tab
* Find **Autonomous Access**, below **Locks** and above **Access Instructions**
* Under **Default access (when no scheduled change applies)**, select **Unlock door** or **QR check-in**
* Save the Experience

<figure><img src="https://29730733-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FvxoNuJiMibWwb1kotX38%2Fuploads%2FnZKT8SPn9wZpUSaccHo5%2FScreenshot%202026-10-02%20at%2010.15.23.png?alt=media&amp;token=60553e0c-6e66-4269-9cc0-b172534784b1" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If the courts already use different access, the Experience starts with no default selected. The help text reads **Courts currently differ**, with a count of courts on **Unlock door** and a count on **QR check-in**. Choose a default before scheduling hours. That choice becomes the access for the whole Experience once you save and apply it to the courts.

### Schedule a change during Opening Hours

The schedule always uses the option opposite the default. If the default is **QR check-in**, the schedule is labeled **Unlock door during these hours**. If the default is **Unlock door**, the schedule is labeled **QR check-in during these hours**.

* Add the days and time ranges when access should switch from the default
* Save the Experience

Scheduled changes must fit inside the Experience's **Opening Hours**. Outside those ranges, including hours when the Experience is closed, Customers get the default. A different access mode cannot be set for closed hours. Meaning, make sure your **Opening Hours** are a wide enough range to cover both the staffed and unstaffed hours your Club will be open for Customers.

<figure><img src="https://29730733-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FvxoNuJiMibWwb1kotX38%2Fuploads%2FMtFDeMjP70UtuAduf0bZ%2FScreenshot%202026-10-02%20at%2010.36.01.png?alt=media&amp;token=7678883a-d6dc-47ba-a813-cc29495e8709" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If Opening Hours change later, adjust any access schedule that no longer fits before saving.

### Apply Experience settings to every court

Saving an Experience access change that affects courts with their own settings asks **Apply to all courts?** The message names those courts and says saving replaces their settings with the Experience settings. This also appears when the courts currently differ and the Experience does not have a default yet.

* Select **Apply to all courts** to replace those court settings.
* Select **Cancel** to keep editing without saving.

After you apply, those courts show **Use experience settings**. The inherited default is shown for reference. A court that inherits scheduled hours displays that schedule, and the schedule cannot be edited there. Change it on the Experience, or switch the court to its own settings.

<figure><img src="https://29730733-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FvxoNuJiMibWwb1kotX38%2Fuploads%2F852rXSQzBm9bM3BxKATq%2FScreenshot%202026-10-02%20at%2010.38.14.png?alt=media&amp;token=41e8837a-70b4-43d2-ab89-bc0e551d1748" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Customize one court

On a court level, the **Open Access** switch is hidden while Autonomous Access is available. Court access is managed in **Autonomous Access** instead.

* Open the court from the Experience.
* Open **Autonomous Access**.
* Select **Customize for this court**.
* Choose the court's **Default access** and, if needed, add scheduled hours.
* Save the court.

<figure><img src="https://29730733-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FvxoNuJiMibWwb1kotX38%2Fuploads%2FhXoHtpDPOKPvUyiZEoib%2FScreenshot%202026-10-02%20at%2010.28.03.png?alt=media&amp;token=3ed3dccf-14cb-460e-958d-2b13deb37cb8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

To follow the Experience again, select **Use experience settings** and save the court. That option appears when the Experience has a default access setting.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Editing Autonomous Access requires a PodPlay admin and an [Autonomous](https://docs.podplay.app/owners-playbook/the-podplay-system/overview-of-tiers/further-details-of-tiers#autonomous) or [Autonomous+](https://docs.podplay.app/owners-playbook/the-podplay-system/overview-of-tiers/further-details-of-tiers#autonomous-1) tier. If the controls are locked, contact your PodPlay CS team.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.podplay.app/overview/open-door-autonomous/set-autonomous-access-hours.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
