# System Terminology

### Glossary Overview

PodPlay's Dashboard, App, Web App, and supporting documentation all share a set of canonical terms. Each definition below covers what the term means and where you'll see it.

As new features are built, new terms may appear within the documentation center. Most terms are self-explanatory, other terms require a brief description for understanding with a system as robust as PodPlay.

#### Club

A Club is your recreational venue. It's your facility.

#### Customer

Customers are the daily users of the App. From a Club's perspective, they're your Customers. The booking flows, App design, and software logic are all built around creating a fluid Customer experience.

#### Environment

An Environment is your specific white-labeled PodPlay App (rarely, though sometimes called an instance). Once we have basic information about how you'd like the App to look and function, we build your white-labled Environment.

#### Staging Environment

A Staging Environment is a sandbox for learning and playing on the platform. It's preconfigured with settings and mirrors how the live App functions, with no path to charging a real Customer.

#### App vs. Web App

The Web App runs in a browser on desktop or phone. It uses a vertical interface so that on a phone it looks and feels like a native App. Clubs on the Basic+, Professional, or Autonomous tiers also have the native iOS and Android Apps, which Customers download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

#### Dashboard

The Dashboard is the administrative back-end where Club staff create Events, build Promo Codes, offer Memberships, and charge Customers. Only people with a designated role (Owner, Admin, Coach, Manager, or Staff) can access the Dashboard.

#### Page

Pages are the different areas the Club's staff can visit while in the Dashboard.

#### Tab

Tabs are sections at the top of a side panel, or the different views at the top of a Page in the Dashboard.

#### Side Panel

Side panels frequently open when in the Dashboard. A side panel gives the Club's staff access to view specifics of a Customer or the details of a Reservation or Event without covering the whole browser window.

#### Member vs. Non-member

A Club has two types of Customers. Members have purchased a subscription to receive extra perks. Non-members visit the Club without an active Membership. All of the Customers in your Club's App are Non-members and can become Members once they buy a Membership.

#### Booking Horizon

The Booking Horizon is how many days into the future, from today, a Customer can book a Reservation or join an Event.

#### Reservation

A Reservation is when a Customer books a court or table at your Club. These are inherently private in nature as the Customer books it on their own, without any help from the Club's Staff. It's the standard way a Customer enters your Club to play without joining an Event.

#### Event

An Event can be a Class or Clinic, an Open Play, a Tournament, a League, or a Party. Events must be created by the Club's Staff. Events cannot be generated without actions taken in the Dashboard. Customers sign up for Events in the App when open spots are available.

#### Listed Event

An Event marked "Listed" is viewable by everyone and appears on the community page of your App.

#### Unlisted Event

An Event marked "Unlisted" is hidden from the public and does not appear on the Events tab of your App.

#### Series

A Series is a collection of Events that span across time and run longer than one day. When a Customer signs up for a Series, they pay for and are entered into the entire Series.

#### Promo Codes

Promo Codes are tools a Club uses to gauge Customer interest in a particular Event. Promo Codes are also frequently used to generate broader interest in the Club's offerings and programming.

#### Play Passes

Play Passes are packages a Customer can purchase. A Play Pass might cover Classes or Clinics, Open Plays, or Replays.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.podplay.app/owners-playbook/new-to-podplay/system-terminology.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
